Goals
The main thing I want to get out of my time on Problogger? Financial stability. Adding to my portfolio is a bonus.
Education
A one-year certificate program that provided an introduction to office technology, communication, and responsibilities.
The Multimedia Design program provided training in graphic design, web design, XHTML, CSS, Flash, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, audio and video editing.
Experience
This was a fascinating position and I was so disappointed that the funding wasn't available for them to keep it. Not only was I ordering textbooks for various courses, I was able to chase down rare books and obtain reproduction permission for texts that weren't in print. I excel at and take great pleasure in the hunt. I also handled all eCommerce operations during the quiet season, picking orders and sending them off to their destination. I built digital mock-ups for a store entrance redesign that was even implemented!
This was a short-term student position while I was in the Office Administration program. I helped update and make corrections to the Durham College website through its WordPress portal, and I transcribed Youtube videos that didn't yet have captions.
Between Upwork and Fiverr I took on several different, small gigs that helped keep me afloat. These gigs included: writing short articles, transferring a couple of websites from other content management systems to WordPress, and building some presentations.
'Webmaster' was the catch-all position that acted as an Office Assistant for the Office Manager, while maintaining the website and performing IT tasks as required. The OAFC used an ancient Content Management System that required HTML knowledge to operate. This position helped keep the office running smoothly, kept membership databases up-to-date, and wore over a dozen hats at once. I learned a LOT out of this position. The only thing I didn't do was clean.
