Description
Book Maverick is a new site about books. Specifically it is about helping people discover the best books in various categories (for example ‘best literary fiction’). It is also about helping people find books that are similar to other books (for example ‘books like Lord of the Flies). It also covers the best books by particular authors (e.g. ‘best Murakami books’). It will cover a very large range of books (everything from sci-fi to romance and mainly but not just fiction) but the overall aim is the same: to help people find new books to read.
Do you love reading? Have you been published on any other blogs about books (or written about books for any other online publications)? Are you perhaps an author (or aspiring author) yourself? Have you studied literature or writing at some level (e.g. MA in Creative Writing?).
In short we are looking for writers who can write about books in a way that is both interesting and accessible for the general reader. You should be able to describe a book in a way that gives the reader an idea of whether they would enjoy it or not. You should also be able to recommend books based on your personal experience and be able to make comparisons between them. You should also be able to write about books you haven’t read in full, i.e. just based on the blurb, intro and reviews, because I don’t expect you to have read everything.
We will be contracting several writers to contribute regularly to our site. Get in touch if you are interested! Please state in your application what makes you suitable and your writing experience (you can also include your rate per word). Also please tell me about the kind of books you like to read (which genres/authors).
