Description

Who we are

Makerkit (makerkit.co) was founded by me at the tail end of 2018, with a mission to make it easier for companies to collect feedback from customers, and ultimately to help companies build better products using that customer feedback.

Our core product is three separate, but interconnected tools:

1. Feedback management: collect, centralise and prioritise feature requests based on feedback

2. Product roadmap: keep customers informed of planned product improvements, and new product features that are actively being worked on

3. Product changelog: an online log of all product changes, so that customers know that your product is evolving to meet customer expectations.

Our vision and content strategy

We want to make Makerkit a must have tool for startup CEO’s, product managers, and anyone else who runs an online business. Our angle is that we help companies build better products. So we’re looking to write content pieces for people who are in charge of product at those companies.

Our target audience:

  • Male or female
  • Works at B2B company that sells online software as a product or service
  • Is a founder, CEO, or product manager
  • High education level
  • Mid to high income level
  • Browses websites like: producthunt.com, techcrunch.com, news.ycombinator.com
  • They are likely to have a presence on twitter

The types of content we want to write:

  • Listicles, e.g. top 10 tools for sending transactional emails
  • In depth article about a specific topic, e.g. analytics for product managers
  • Case studies

Although our core proposition is a customer feedback tool, we want to write content that broadly appeals to startups, both early stage and those scaling up. So the type of content can be fairly wide, for example:

  • Product management for startups
  • 5 key metrics to track for your startup
  • How to prioritise features when building your product
  • Marketing for SaaS businesses

Our writing style

Our content should be:

  • Informal and conversational. We don’t want to write essays, it should be more like having a conversation with the reader.
  • Personality should come across in the content. Use of emojis is encouraged! We want to get far away from corporate marketing as possible.
  • Each content piece should have a main image. Also if it makes sense, add images to the body of the content if it helps break up the text, or explain something in more detail. See https://www.intercom.com/blog/emoji-ratings/ for a good example.
  • Good headings - see https://www.quicksprout.com/2014/07/03/the-formula-for-a-perfect-headline/
  • Use sub-headings to break up text, so that the reader can skim.

About you

We want to work with a writer who is:

  • Has some experience working for a startup in a marketing role (not a deal breaker)
  • Can write content with minimal guidance
  • Ability to research a topic, and write an informative piece using those learnings
  • Knows some SEO, ideally to be able to take a keyword and optimise content for it.

Requirements

If you’ve made it this far, and still interested in working with us, that’s great! We want to hire the best, and hopefully this role will turn into a long term engagement.

We ask potential writers to do the following:

  1. Send an email to [email protected] and pitch me 3 headlines that you potentially want to write based on everything you’ve read so far.
  2. If the headlines fit with what we’re looking for, I’ll ask you whether you’d like to write an article based on our most favourite headline.
  3. We’ll review the piece of content, and if it looks good, we’ll pay you based on your quote. If we don’t feel it’s a good fit, we won’t use it and you will have full rights to that piece of content.

If all that sounds good, I look forward to hearing from you!
