JOB OVERVIEW

We’re seeking to hire exceptional editors for either of the 3 roles:

  1. Fiction copyeditors.
  2. Nonfiction copyeditors. 
  3. Fiction development editors. 

 

Whichever role best describes your skills and experience, we’d love to consider for a long-term position!

 

You’ll be taking the books produced by our in-house writing team and be responsible for either delivering error-free, well-written pieces (copyeditors), or assisting our writers in creating exceptional stories that deliver on every element of a novel (development editors).

 

Before we touch on the specific requirements for each position, here are what you must meet regardless of the role you wish to apply for:

  • You are precise, detail-oriented and skilled in grammar and word usage.
  • You are a native English speaker.
  • You have editing experience.
  • You use style guides when editing.
  • You have open availability and can be reached throughout the day.
  • You can work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment

FICTION COPYEDITORS

We’re seeking to hire exceptional fiction copyeditors, especially if you’re experienced with editing romance writing. It’s a copyediting-line-editing hybrid position.

Our rate is $5 per 1k words. Projects range from 20,000 words, all the way up to 150,000 words each. So, you can make good money on a single project, and with our workflow, we can keep your pipeline full of exciting projects. We do not require that you apply for jobs, jobs come to you based on your capacity!

 

Fiction Copyeditor tasks

Here’s an overview of what you’ll be focusing on when editing books with our company:

  • Ensuring that the piece is consistent- this being the consistency of characteristics of people, plot, objects, and places seen by the reader over a period of time.
  • Removing overused words.
  • Tightening the language used. Ensure it’s clear and fluid.
  • Tightening transitions and scenes- ensuring it all makes sense and reads well.
  • Improving tone and phrasing.
  • Improving the rhythm and pacing.
  • Lookout for narrative digressions.
  • Tackling errors - grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, syntax, font usage, numerals, hyphenation.
  • Writing craft- paragraph structure and sentence structure.
  • Voice and style.
  • Overall delivering a piece that is error-free, reads well, is consistent, cohesive and complete.

You’ll be working one-on-one with writers, interacting with clients and be a key player in each project!

 

NONFICTION COPYEDITORS

We’re seeking to hire exceptional nonfiction copyeditors that will be responsible for ensuring that our books ready well, are well polished, error-free, accurate, consistent, cohesive and complete. It’s a copyediting-line-editing hybrid position.

Our rate is $5 per 1k words. Projects range from 10,000 words, all the way up to 50,000 words each (average projects are 30,000 words). So, you can make good money on a single project, and with our workflow, we can keep your pipeline full of exciting projects. We do not require that you apply for jobs, jobs come to you based on your capacity!

 

Nonfiction Copyeditor tasks

Here’s an overview of what you’ll be focusing on when editing books with our company:

  • Checking for accuracy and usefulness of information (value offered to the reader).
  • Errors - grammar, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, syntax, font usage, numerals, hyphenation.
  • Rhythm, readability, and pacing.
  • Writing craft- paragraph structure, sentence flow, tenses, word choice, and language technique.
  • Voice and style.
  • Editing for consistency.
  • Overall, delivering a piece that is error-free, reads well, is consistent, cohesive and complete

You’ll be working one-on-one with writers, interacting with clients and be a key player in each project!

 

FICTION DEVELOPMENT EDITORS

We’re seeking to hire exceptional fiction development editors, more specifically for romance fiction novels. You’ll be assisting the writer in developing stronger stories in all elements - language, structure, characters, dialogue, etc - by analyzing each aspect of a piece and providing specific solutions and instructions to achieve that end.

Our rate is $6 per 1k words. Projects range from 20,000 words, all the way up to 150,000 words each. So, you can make good money on a single project, and with our workflow, we can keep your pipeline full of exciting projects. We do not require that you apply for jobs, jobs come to you based on your capacity!

 

Development editor tasks

Here’s an overview of what you’ll be focusing on when editing books with our company:

  • Assisting with the outlining.
  • Structure of each piece.
  • Engaging characters and overall character development
  • Pacing
  • Writing Style
  • Creating a strong narrative
  • The dialogue and language
  • The author's voice
  • Visual description
  • Assisting the writer and helping them deliver an exceptional piece
  • Creating a memorable and impactful story, and a few other vital areas.

You’ll be working one-on-one with writers, interacting with clients and be a key player in each project!
