Description

Cloudwards.net is looking to strengthen its writing team with a few people that are interested in reviewing software of all stripes, but with a focus on backup, storage, project management and security applications (VPNs and antivirus, mostly). If that sounds like a good fit for you, keep reading to see what we offer and what we expect.

At Cloudwards, we run a rolling calendar, meaning we publish several articles every day, Monday through Friday. There’s no upper limit on the amount we publish, so that means you can work as much as you want if you get the job, though we set a minimum of one article or review per week.

Word count runs between 2,000 and 3,000, usually, though it can be a bit higher. Generally, all pieces will go through three editorial rounds, meaning it takes roughly a week from first submission for it to appear on the site.

Most of our current team publish around two or three pieces per week, but, as we have a very specific way of working, generally it will take a new writer such as yourself about two weeks to a month to get up to speed. That said, we’ll do everything we can to make this transition as smooth as possible for new writers, using extensive documentation and detailed briefings.

We pay within the first five days of each month for all articles published the month before, and the pay ranges from US$0.06 to $0.09 per word depending on experience, meaning you can rack up some pretty decent invoices once you get going.

What we’re looking for are people with native or near-native written English and who are comfortable with American use and style. You need to care about our readers and be willing to put in that extra bit of effort to properly inform them of the purchases they’re considering. As such, you need to really be into how software works and translating that into solid copy that really gets into the nitty-gritty.

If all the above sounds good to you, click on the link at the bottom of the page to access the Google Form where you can submit your application. As we don’t want you to spend too much time with it, all we need from you is your full name, Gmail address (or one routed through Gmail; all our work is submitted in Google Drive, so it’s a hard requirement), links to published pieces or your portfolio, as well as a short cover letter describing why you want to work for us. For this last one, it pays to take a look at the site, first. We also ask you to submit your per-word rate, which is how we check that you read this ad.

If we like what we see, we’ll invite you to write out an unpaid trial review of 1,000 words which we won’t be publishing, naturally, and if all that goes well you’ll be a brand new member of the Cloudwards team. We’ll be reviewing applications from Monday February 10 onwards, for about two weeks.

We look forward to seeing your applications come in. Good luck!
