Description

Are you one of those people who's a bit obsessive about buying stuff? You'll always check online reviews, you'll visit three stores before you whip out your card, and you'll understand all of those acronyms in the product specs long before a sales assistant explains them to you.

If this describes you – we need your help!

We're an established Australian product review site dedicated to helping antipodean audiences make the right decisions in technology, home appliances and kitchenware.

We're looking for writers (can be based anywhere) who are obsessive about the little details and can explain why they matter clearly.

You'll understand what makes the Dyson V10 vacuum different from the V12, and why Miele appliances cost more than Belkin ones. You'll love digging into the detail and pulling out meaning, rather than numbers – so that our readers can make the right decision about the products they're considering.

We want to build the kind of site that you'd enjoy reading before buying, so expect some editing before your first pieces go live – this isn't a job or a team suited to big egos who aren't willing to learn. If you're a good fit though, you can expect a really friendly (and experienced) editor, regular work and the opportunity to take on more responsibility as you grow (if you want to). And of course, we're super flexible – work when and where you want, with no expectations of regular check-ins, catchups or availability for team meetings.

Our pay rates range from $0.05 to $0.08c per word – please indicate your per-word expectation and your desired weekly word count in the application form. We care about writers and we know freelancing can be tough, so we'll pay you via TransferWise every Monday for the previous week's commissions.

Application is via a Google form below - if you're selected for a screening assignment, you'll have the option to choose a 3000-word piece paid at $0.015/word (for publication) or an unpaid 1000-word piece which will not be published.

What we're looking for:

  • Deadline-driven
  • Capable of conducting in-depth research quickly, and synthesizing the most important aspects of it
  • Demonstrable domain knowledge of technology, home appliances or kitchenware
  • An eye for content flow and structure
  • Native English or high fluency writer (grammatical mistakes are not acceptable)
  • At least three years of writing experience – prior journalism experience ideal, prior content writing experience essential
  • Degree in journalism or English ideal
