Description

We're looking for a content writer with experience in the mortgage, real estate or personal finance market(s) to write engaging, high-value articles for our blog that educates our audience.

We're specifically looking for actionable, practical, useful and EVERGREEN content that teaches our audience the “how to’s” and tips to reduce the overwhelm that goes along with buying a home and getting a mortgage.

While also keeping in line the article’s compliance with guidelines of what a lender can and cannot say (we’ll help by providing access to technical documentation around this and a plethora of reference resources).

Ideally, you’re familiar with content marketing powerhouses like Backlinko, QuickSprout, Neil Patel, Unbounce, GrooveHQ or similar sites. We’re looking to bring the value of a Neil Patel or Brian Dean type article to the mortgage market and we won’t accept anything of lesser quality.

Examples of sites we want to follow in our market:

- BankRate.com

- NerdWallet.com

- CreditKarma

Our readers are consumers (first time home buyers and experienced home buyers) who are looking for information on mortgages, wanting to leverage some of our mortgage tools or looking to get a mortgage. Often in that order.

We're looking for pieces that are +2,000 words and follow our formatting guidelines as it relates to reference links, headlines, images, etc.

Great examples of the types of topics we’re looking for:

- Looking For The Best Mortgage Rate? Here's 13 Questions You Need To Ask

- The Mortgage Loan Process: 7 Steps You'll Take From Pre-Approval To Closing

- 17 Useful Tips for First-Time Homebuyers

- 51 Questions You NEED To Ask When Getting A Mortgage

We have some strict guidelines, here’s some of them:

  • All content needs to be value driven, not sales driven (tell a story, tie the offer to the story)
  • Content should contain 5 - 15 reference/influencer links per 1,000 words of content
  • Content should be broken up by images every 350-600 words and headlines/sub-headlines every 250-500 words
  • Paragraphs should be less than 4 lines in height
  • Use simple words, try to aim for a 5th grader vocabulary in terms of how you explain things
  • Use “you” to initiate mental conversations throughout the article

Reference links or influencer links here could be to authoritative sites that have an audience or specific influencers in the space.

Ideally these folks have an audience to share to as this is part of our promotion strategy. We'd definitely like to keep away from linking to our competitors but if we notice it we'll let you know so you can make note.

All images will need to have a source included as with any quotes. We'll need the links so our team can credit as well as ensure from a compliance standpoint we're solid.

In some cases a stock image might be useful to break up content, we buy our stock images from shutterstock.com so just link to one that makes sense and we'll buy it/swap it in.

The best example of what we want to follow in terms of structure and formatting can be seen on NeilPatel.com.

Ideally all content can be delivered as a Google Doc with images pasted in but also a separate folder of the high res images provided.

We are not - at this time - interested in opinion pieces, narratives or "soft" motivational pieces (mindset, generic goal-setting etc).

We’re looking to work with people initially on a one article trial. If we like your work we’ll have you come on-board on a monthly contract or hire you full time.

To apply, send an email to jamil[dot]velji[at]onqfinancial[dot]com with the following:

  • 2-3 of your most relevant sample writings (links or attach files)
  • A pitch article topic + 3 – 5 bullet points of what you’d cover
  • A quick overview of you, your background and what you’re looking for (contract, full time, part time, etc)

The process to hire will be:

  1. We review your submitted info
  2. If there's a good fit, we'll ask you to do a single article trial (paid)
  3. If there's a good fit based on that, we'll make an offer
