Wealth Noir Media is focused on bringing great content to improve the lives of African-Americans and underrepresented millennials. Our newest site, Wealth Noir, focuses on helping accredited investors and high-income millennials build wealth to achieve financial freedom and generational wealth. SingleBlackMale has been around since 2007 producing high quality love and dating content for black millennials, but will be relaunching with a new look and staff in 2018. DamienPeters.com covers the technology sector, diversity in tech, and a look inside the heart and soul of our company and mission. We are a new startup focused on media and financial services for underrepresented millennials and are working to grow our media business. We are 100% remote with flexible work hours. Position Summary
The Lead Content Editor position will be responsible for creating content for the Wealth Noir Digital platform. The Editor will manage and guide current writers through the editing process, and will own the content schedule for WealthNoir.com. Over time, this role may grow to include editing responsibilities of Wealth Noir Financial and SingleBlackMale.org.
Editing/Content Management Duties
- Manage content schedule to determine when articles run on Wealth Noir.
- Edit written content for clarity, style, and fit within Wealth Noir editorial guidelines.
- Define and finalize editorial guidelines.
- Fact-check documents.
- Collaborate with Social Media Coordinator and Email Marketing Lead around marketing of each new piece of published content.
- Perform SEO research to choose keywords for a post and ensure post follows SEO best practices.
- Tag and categorize content within existing content taxonomy.
- Some basic image editing and placement for distribution on Pinterest and other social media sites.
Managerial Responsibilities
- Manage a remote team of writers and contributors.
- Recruit, hire, and train new staff and guest writers.
- Develop collaborative relationships with Social Media Coordinator and Email Marketing Lead around marketing of each new piece of published content.
- Provide input and guidance on long-term content direction of Wealth Noir against the company’s mission.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field.
- 3 years’ experience in digital content creation, editing, and publishing.
- 1 years’ experience as a manager.
- Writing portfolio of published articles directly related to the personal finance field.
- Experience with Content Management systems (WordPress, Drupal, etc).
- Familiarity with Associated Press writing style.
- Experience in Financial Services; or, demonstrable interest in personal finances.
- Basic knowledge of digital marketing related to digital content, including analytics and tracking.
- Passion for increasing access to wealth education in underrepresented minority communities.
- Ability to coach and motivate other writers to produce strong digital media content.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or related field.
- 3 years’ experience managing editorial teams.
- Experience managing a remote team of writers.
Work Environment
This position will work remotely from the employee’s home office.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position is expected to work 6 hours/wk. to start, increasing to 15 – 30 hours as the business grows. Position may work flexible hours, but will be expected to meet publishing deadlines and make regular progress on long-term projects.
