Description

We are a Japanese travel, culture, and entertainment website looking to hire a freelance writer for 2+ articles a month. Room to increase if things go well. Currently, we’re after video game listicle writers, though it’s likely the position will also include anime, movie, and tv writing if things go well. So, bonus points if that sounds like you!

Requirements:

Be passionate - If you’re a part of our team, you’ll be ridiculously passionate about all things Japan. It’s likely you’ll be the annoying one out of your friends who just can’t stop talking about it! This freelance role calls for a considerable interest and previous experience with Japanese video games (or video games set in Japan) and any other entertainment area. Show me and our audience just how passionate you are!

Write with personality - This is a must. Ideally, you’ll have first-hand experience with the video games you write about, or you’ll be a fantastic researcher and not a Wikipedia re-writer. Deep dives into Japanese forums and google translate are your friends here! Either way, you’ll be able to write incredibly engaging copy that’s humorous, yet informative. What sets us apart from the competition is the connection we make with the reader, even through listicles.

Be Proactive - If you’re a part of our team, we want you to be involved. Pitch article ideas, and suggestions, and let’s create the number one resource on the web together. Think you’ve got what it takes to branch out from video games? We want to know!

Take Pride - You’ll have a byline and photo on every article you write and we want you to feel proud of the work you hand in.

While you don’t need to be a world-famous writer, I would ask that only those with at least some previous (relative) experience writing for the web apply to this position. Content may be edited down to match the tone of the site, so it’s important you’re able to learn quickly.

Must be able to write fluently in US English

Rate: depends on experience

Looking forward to hearing from you!
