About The Company
Founded in 2006, Quality Nonsense publishes websites for webmasters, like WhoIsHostingThis and HTML.com.
The company HQ is in London, but our talented remote team of webmasters, writers & programmers are located across dozens of countries worldwide.
We are looking for a skilled editor that can:-
- Plan & execute content strategy for each site
- Draft actionable briefs for blog posts, long form content and newsletter
- Manage content production from earliest draft to final published work
- Manage a team of freelance writers & delivery deadlines
- Draft irresistible headlines
- Provide actionable & constructive feedback to writers
- Polish our writer’s copy for clarity, grammar & length
- Help grow & mentor our writers
- Treat fact checking like the life and death matter it ought to be
- Spot sloppy errors, assumptions & cliches a mile off
- Ensure that our content is of the very highest quality
- Contribute to our style guide
- Liase with webmasters

Who We’re Looking for

For this role:-
- Native English speaker
- Exceptional editing & writing skills
(US English. You can be based anywhere)
- Strong research skills
- Basic technical proficiency
(eg, most writers run their own blogs/websites, some can code)
- Understand that “done” is better than “perfect”
- Comfortable working with rolling deadlines
- Have strong personal interest in technology & the internet
- You likely run your own websites, but crave the chance to work on bigger sites
- Self-motivated, can handle fast turnarounds.
- Prefers shorter words over fancy ones (per Orwell’s advice)
- Detail orientated
For every role:-
- Good communicator (remote work is otherwise impossible)
- Able to follow a set way of working (eg, how to invoice)
- Happy working solo (ie, without micromanaging or nagging)
- Well organized (ie, deadlines get met, without excuses or exceptions)
- Rock steady reliable – your word is your bond
- Basic WordPress skills
- Basic HTML skills (eg, Q: When do you use the [BLINK] attribute? A: Never)

Who Works For us?
We work with a remote team of contractors in dozens of countries all over the world: from Bosnia to the UK to Canada to Australia. We continue to grow at a fast rate, and are looking for more additions to our team.
Our team of writers is varied. We have a grumpy physics PhD, an idealistic MBA with a side hustle in Hollywood, and a hyperactive former greyhound racing gambler (or so he says).
We have wonderful writers that have worked for some of the world’s biggest websites. And we have exceptional people who only write for us.
What Kind of Content Do We Produce?
You’ll be writing on everything from web hosting to antique programming languages, from internet law to the social impact of encryption.
The work is highly varied. One writer might produce a profle of a hosting company on Monday, an introduction to the C# programming language on Wednesday, and a blog post about people falling in love with chatbots on Friday.
If that mix sounds exciting, rather than terrifying, then maybe you have the Right Stuff.
We always produce high-end content (ie, we are not a content mill). Our CEO is a former writer/editor, and understands the value of quality content.

We are especially interested in people who can tackle very technical subjects, like resources on programming languages. A good example of this is our resource on the Forth programming language.
Articles are more often than not pretty substantial (1000+ words. Our record is 60,000!). We aim to be crystal clear on what we want on every project, with a full brief and examples of good/bad outcomes.
Pay & Workload
TLDR: We pay well/fast, and presently have as much work as you can handle
Rates vary in line with your commitment. We believe (based on public salary data), that we pay better than 90% of comparable writing gigs. Writers get paid every other week in US dollars (by PayPal or wire transfer).
We are looking for editors available full time.
There are no set hours, and you can work when you choose on any time zone and in any location – provided you meet deadlines.

How We Work
You’ll be working as part of our remote team alongside team members in dozens of countries worldwide.
Ideally, you’ll have previous experience working remotely (although it’s no dealbreaker, if not). All we ask is that you approach the job with an open mind about ways of working.
Over the last decade working remotely, we’ve developed unique processes, systems and ways of working that help us get things done (both on time and of the quality we expect of ourselves).
We use a few popular tools you may have used before:-
- Slack, for teamwork & day-to-day chat
- Asana, for project management
- Google Docs/Google Sheets for collaborate documents
- WordPress to power many of our sites
We don’t micro-manage; you will be expected to meet deadlines without exception, and without us hassling you.
When we commission projects, we’ll provided a writing brief, plus due dates and required minimum length. There is sometimes some discussion via Asana.
You write the article and deliver it in the requested format, we edit it and publish, and shortly afterwards you get paid.
Almost everybody works across multiple sites in our portfolio, and you will too.
