Background: I started my freelance writing career in 2008 making $1 per 500 words. But the vision for what you’ll read about today started around 5 years ago. Back then, I wasn’t in a place to launch this sort of initiative. Quite frankly, I hadn’t become successful enough yet.
So, I started growing. Over the past 5 years, I’ve worked with top clients, had my work featured on major media publications, and landed projects up to $30,000 a month. Needless to say, I got the experience.
A few weeks ago, I posted an ad for freelance writing interns. Thought I might get a few eager freshers who I could teach.
The response was overwhelming.
And it showed me that what I've been thinking about for several years isn't just a good idea, it's a need...
The Vision: I want to help every freelance writer achieve the monthly income of their dreams. Not just by teaching (though that will be a HUGE part of it), but also by cultivating a community that brings the power into the hands of the writers.
We don’t need to work for peanuts.
We don’t need to send 20 job applications a day and hope for the best.
We don’t need to feel lonely.
We don’t have to struggle with imposter syndrome.
There’s power in numbers.
So, I’m here to gather all the freelancers. To hear your feedback. To learn what you want, what you need, what you fear. To build a place for you to learn, ask for help, and find opportunity. To seek collaborations and partnerships that will benefit your personal career.
I want to build a place where we can thrive. Where we can leverage the power of our community to access influencers and exclusive opportunities. Where we can help one another, support one another and cultivate strategic partnerships with one another.
I see a place where we gather as committed freelancers to gain the knowledge, strength and motivation we each need to succeed. A place where digital agencies from all around the world know they can come to find writers. A place where influencers come to teach their wisdom. A place where friendships, collaborations and partnerships are born.
I believe it will serve as a type of trade school for those wanting a career in freelancing. As a library of interviews, questions/answers, feedback and case studies. As a local conference or meetup for everyone in the community near you. As an accountability group for those wanting to push themselves. As a hub for news, trends and job opportunities.
But maybe I’m alone in this vision.
That’s why I’m here today - to see if anyone else wants a community like this to exist for freelance writers.
