My name is Ryan and I run https://www.smart-start-kayaking.com, a blog about kayaking and water sports. We’re looking for an expert kayak writer who can help us expand our site. We have a large backlog of content ideas that we’re ready to start producing.
This is an exciting opportunity for you to write about the thing you love most - kayaking! Whether you’re a hobbyist or consider yourself a pro on the topic, we want you to write for us. You’ll be covering a wide range of topics, including the wider water sports and fishing genres in general.
For this, we need a true expert - no fakers here, please! If you don’t truly have a passion for kayaking, it’s not going to work, I’m afraid.

As a writer, you will be expected to complete the assignment within the guidelines given. Article topics can vary but may include product reviews, advice posts, “best of” posts, feature articles, kayaking destination posts, and guest posts on various topics.
Other projects may be requested as the working relationship grows. Further revisions may be requested after work is submitted for review. We use Surfer SEO and Google docs for all assignments, so must be willing to work with and use both for writing assignments.
Requirements
- Native English speaker.
- Create content that will suit the needs of a captive and knowledgeable audience.
- Willing to use Surfer SEO for content optimization
- Link to outbound sources/resources within the article
- Add images and relevant videos to articles
- The ability to write at least two articles per week. These articles usually are about 1000-2000 words each, but on occasion may require more. More articles may be requested (but would not be mandatory) over time.
- The ability to implement editor feedback into future writing.
- Experience writing for online venues and websites.
- Experience with Kayaking and/or aquatic sports. This includes basic product knowledge, safety procedures, and standard practices.
- Familiarity with AP style.
- Strong research skills.
- Can take SEO concerns into consideration when writing content.
- Can keep a consistent line of communication open with managers and editors.
- Familiarity with Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Microsoft Word.
Additional Preferences
- A degree in English or a closely related field.
- Previous experience writing with WordPress.
- Knowledge of how to tailor content so that it can maintain a strong social media presence.
