Description
Do you love to travel and explore, even in your home city? Are you meticulous about planning every detail of your trips to perfection? You might be a good candidate to become a freelance travel writer at Travel Lemming!
What Our Writers Do
We write concise, friendly, and highly-informative “guidebook style” blog posts around
subjects like “what to do in [destination name],” “the best day trips from [destination name],” “the best hotels,” etc. Our goal at Travel Lemming is to build the most helpful online travel resource on the internet. We want to help readers plan their trips like pros and have an awesome time doing it!
Why You’ll Love Writing for Travel Lemming
Travel blogging is super fun, and you’ll learn how to actually do it successfully! We are perfectionists when it comes to our content, but we are a small team and are pretty laid back and fun to work with. Our guides get read by tens of thousands of travelers, and it’s a really special feeling to know that you’re helping others travel better!
What We Are Looking For
1 or 2 Articles Per Week – We’re looking for writers who are interested in writing for us for the long haul, and can produce 1 or 2 articles per week consistently.
Local Expertise – We prefer our guides to be written by an area local, or at least someone who has spent a lot of time in the destination and knows it well. This could be your hometown or where you live now – even if it’s just a small city. We need writers who can write about any city or destination in the following countries: the United States (top priority, and 75% of open positions), Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico, Croatia, Georgia (the country), Spain, Greece, Dominica, and Costa Rica.
Attention to Detail – Our writers must closely follow instructions, and are either already comfortable formatting posts within WordPress or are willing to learn. We have detailed standard operating procedures, and you will need to carefully follow specific topic outlines. This is very important, so you should include the name of the capital of France in your application form somewhere, so we know you read and digested this part.
Quality Writing – You do not need experience in travel writing, but you do need to be able to demonstrate that you can write clear, concise, fluff-free text.
Photos – Although not required, it’s also a huge bonus if you take your own photos of the places you’re writing about (we’ll pay for a license)!
Compensation
We pay 5 cents a word. Articles vary in length, usually between 1,500 and 3,000 words. The average is about 2,000 words, so that equates to about $100. Additionally, you can make bonus money by licensing your original photos to us.
This is an freelance/independent contractor (1099) position, so you’ll need to invoice us monthly. We pay all invoices promptly at the start of each month.
How to Apply – Fill out our short application form, which you can find by clicking "Apply" below, and we’ll be in touch with next steps.
