The magazine

Design is Political is a new online magazine about the ethics of creativity. We explore ways in which design and technology have been used for good, help people to get started doing this themselves, and raise awareness around the ideas of ethics within the creative sector.

What we need

We are looking to connect with a number of writers who can produce content for the magazine on a regular basis - initially 3 articles per month.

We will pay $25 via PayPal for each published article, and each article should ideally be 1000-2000 words in length.

Writer specification

You will be socially and politically aware and will have a deep understanding of at least one creative field. These fields could be web design, illustration, writing, marketing, programming etc. The core skill we are looking for is the ability to link creative design to social impact and policy making.

Examples

An example of how creativity has been used to increase democracy can be found in an app called They Work For You where users can easily find out more about their local representative. An example of how technology has been used to influence decision making is the Stop Funding Hate campaign which saw Lego pull their advertising from controversial news outlets.

These are the type of topics we will be featuring and you must have an understanding and interest in this area.

Let’s work together!

We will provide topics and ideas to write about but you may also choose yourself - we want this to be a two-way street. We would also expect to add you to our “authors” page, which will include links to your social media, a bio and picture. Being part of this team will also see you sharing our content regularly across your social networks.
