Data-driven content writer with PR experience

We’re looking for a data-driven content writer to help us research, write, and pitch content. Our sites cover the topics of home security and safety, cybersecurity, small business entrepreneurship, and more.

What you’ll be doing day to day:

1. We either give you a topic (or you come up with your own) - it's usually some sort of study or ranking
   1. Nearly a quarter of women have turned in Uber drivers for uncomfortable behavior
   2. Females are being murdered in the workplace at an alarming rate
   3. Student loan debt trends per state
2. You research and write - paid per word (usually ~1,500 words per piece)
3. We send press releases and email campaigns while you would need to be on hand to handle interview requests (usually for local news and radio stations; maybe 3 or 4 come in per campaign) - paid per interview
4. Regularly scout HARO and ProfNet, see if any of our content fits, and pitch - paid per placement

While this job is remote (anywhere in the world), you will need to be available Monday-Friday overlapping with both Pacific and Eastern time, so you can do interviews.

Ideally, you have a journalism background and understand how to pitch and conduct basic PR. You have worked on similar projects in the past and can show us recently published content.

What success looks like: (actual #s to be discussed with individual candidates)

1. Increase in placements and articles about our content and message
2. Web traffic on a consistent “up and to the right” basis
3. Establishment of the brand as a go-to resource for journalists and reporters who report about issues related to small business etc.

What we’re looking for in a hire:

1. Have done something like this before.
2. Have previous and good experience working remote.
3. Are a detail-oriented person.
4. Enjoy talking to and interacting with people.
5. Speak and write fluent, mother-tongue English
6. Know how to use tools like BuzzStream, BuzzSumo, aHrefs and the like to find PR and placement opportunities.

This position is on a Freelance/1099 basis.
