Description

Armorbelle is a “fantasy culture” site for the geeks, dreamers and eccentrics who make it up.

Our site is primarily geared toward women, but writers of all genders are welcome to apply. Influences include The Mary Sue, Kotaku, Faerie Magazine and Fashionably Geek.

The job will involve writing articles (400 - 600 words) that cover new developments in the world of fantasy. For example, if an art book is coming out, you’d share information about the creator, what inspired them and what sort of pieces people can look forward to.

Pay is $15 per article and we’ll initially want 1-2 articles per week. We pay through Paypal. Opportunities and pay may increase as time goes on, but I don’t want to over-promise when we’re still getting off the ground.

Prior experience being published in print or digital format is preferred but not necessary. Having a strong style is encouraged. We'd like to work with people who inject personality into their writing and can make generic news more entertaining.

Examples! Here and here.

Familiarity with WordPress and/or graphic design is a plus. It will be beneficial if you already know how to format images and load them into WordPress for review, but we're willing to teach you how if not.

You will get a byline on the site as well as a short bio on our “Contributors” page where you can link personal sites/social media if desired.

Your typical workflow will look like this:

  • You're provided with a topic to cover, including links to resources like articles and photos. Depending on the details we want included, you may receive a bullet-pointed outline to use as a starting point.
  • You write the article.
  • Log in to the Armorbelle WordPress and save your article as a draft. Insert corresponding images and format them per our guidelines.
  • I’ll review your work and get back to you with any requested edits (if needed).
  • You make the changes (if needed) and I schedule your post.
  • You get paid and the post eventually goes live.

If this sounds like an opportunity you may be interested in, we'd be happy to hear from you. Please respond with the following information:

  • A cover letter (Who are you? Why are you interested in this position and what do you want out of it? What's your favorite fantasy series/setting?)
  • Your resume
  • 2-3 examples of your writing
  • What topics are you most interested in covering?
    • Categories include: Video/board games, art, apparel/accessories, myths, crafts, makeup, books/comics, décor, food

Please note: You must be able to cover ALL or nearly all of these topics. If there are one or two subjects that are completely foreign to you, like you've never worn makeup in your life, I'll give a pass on that. Although that would probably make for an amusing article. "And here we have a new Harry Potter-inspired mascara! Which will look lovely on your... cheeks?"

You don't need to be a specialist in every subject, you just need to understand the overarching theme: fantasy. The job primarily involves gathering information and then sharing it in your own words and opinions.

However, if we hire several people I will try to primarily send you topics pertaining to your biggest interests.

Thank you for your interest!
