Description

We publish several high profile websites on a variety of topics and we’re looking for freelance editors who can help out with editing and content strategy on a regular basis.

Scope:

This is an ongoing project since we're regularly publishing new content on our site. It certainly has the potential to be a long term project for the right candidate.

Requirements:

Native speakers of American English
Based in the US or US expat (Preferred)

Job Details:

This position will be a mix of 2 different roles.

First will be assisting with editing articles after they've been written by our team of authors.

In order to be our editor, you must enjoy writing and be very good at it. Anyone can write a boring review. We require the write-ups to be engaging, detailed, helpful, personable, humorous with a touch of snarkiness. All in all, they must entertain as much as they inform.

Our editors have the final say in everything we publish, so in addition to simple proofreading you need to be able to rewrite, cut out fluff, and work your magic in order to make sure every article is publish-ready.

The second role of this job is what we're calling a content strategist.

In order to do this job well, you need to be able to use your intuition, Google search results, and Frase (an SEO tool we use) to take a topic we want to write about and create a content brief for our writer.

This will include a suggested word count, as well as ideas about what questions to answer in the article and which subtopics to include.

Being able to understand searcher intent when a person is "googling" something is critically important.

We'll provide you lists of topics/keywords and you'll need to take them and do the following:

  1. Verify we've not written about this before on our site.
  2. Create a content brief with the details mentioned above
  3. Assign the article out to our team lead on Clickup

We'll train you on this workflow, and then after a short ramp up period we'll expect that you can manage your time and work independently without us looking over your shoulder.

You don’t have to have tons of experience in editing to apply. New editors who are willing to learn are welcome to apply as well.

PLEASE DO NOT APPLY if you’re not a native speaker of American English.

Payment:

This is a freelance hourly position that starts at $15/hour. We'd love to have someone who is available at least 25 hours per week.

How To Apply:

The attached Google form includes both a short editing test and a quick content planning test. We'll follow up with qualified applicants via email.

We look forward to working with you!
