About the Role:

VICE is seeking a sharp, culturally fluent, and editorially rigorous Commerce Editorial Editor to lead the creation and execution of high-impact affiliate focused content across our consumer lifestyle verticals. This role will shape VICE’s commerce strategy, blending editorial voice, product relevance, and digital performance to serve readers and drive revenue.

You will lead a team of writers, working cross-functionally with SEO, analytics, and affiliate partnerships to produce timely, high-quality content that helps our audience discover what’s worth buying—without compromising on editorial integrity.

We approach shopping with the same curiosity and cultural edge that defines our journalism.

Key Responsibilities:

Editorial Strategy & Leadership

  • Own and evolve the commerce editorial roadmap across VICE verticals (e.g. style, tech, wellness, cannabis, culture).
  • Manage a team of staff and freelance writers, editing for accuracy, tone, originality, and affiliate best practices.
  • Pitch and approve story ideas that blend cultural relevance with commerce opportunity.
  • Uphold the VICE editorial tone—irreverent, sharp, and culturally attuned—while ensuring accuracy and compliance.
  • Drive consistent month-over-month growth of commerce content output and traffic by scaling workflows, optimizing editorial processes, hiring writers, and aligning content with audience demand and seasonal opportunities

Data-Driven Content Optimization

  • Use affiliate analytics, SEO insights, and trend reports to prioritize high-impact content.
  • Regularly refine editorial output based on performance data (CTR, conversion, revenue, engagement).
  • Coordinate with SEO and product teams to test headlines, optimize link structures, and improve UX around shopping content.

Partnership & Revenue Alignment

  • Act as editorial point of contact for the affiliate, brand partnerships, and e-commerce teams.
  • Balance revenue goals with storytelling and service journalism—ensuring reader trust is never compromised.
  • Source and vet emerging product trends across platforms (e.g. TikTok, Reddit, YouTube, Amazon) for commerce opportunities.

Trend Intelligence & Timeliness

  • Anticipate cultural moments and product launches to publish early and authoritatively.
  • Rapidly package product stories in response to breaking news or viral internet trends.
  • Track competitor coverage and commerce innovation across media brands to keep VICE ahead.

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of digital editorial experience, including at least 2 years focused on affiliate content or product journalism.
  • Deep experience assigning and editing high-performing commerce content at scale.
  • Strong understanding of commerce monetization ecosystems (Amazon, impact.com, LTK, etc).
  • Excellent story ideation instincts grounded in trend fluency, social listening, and keyword tools.
  • Familiarity with newsroom operations and CMS platforms like WordPress.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines, priorities, and contributors without losing voice or precision.
  • Enthusiasm for the weird, the useful, and the viral—and knowing how to package it all with wit and style

Bonus Points For

  • Experience covering products through a cultural lens (e.g. fashion in music, tech in internet subcultures).
  • Background in journalism or a hybrid commerce + editorial role.
  • Working knowledge of SEO best practices and headline testing.
