WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking to bring on a regular ghostwriter for a fast-growing California travel website.
We have a lot of travel and affiliate blog articles that need to be updated and we're looking to bring someone on who can help us add new sections and/or re-write outdated sections in these articles, while still keeping the original writer's voice in mind.
For this role, we need a true research rockstar. You must feel confident researching and structuring that research into bite-sized, easily digestible nuggets of information. We don't want you to just regurgitate product descriptions or summaries found on Google and write a list of features or attractions without a meaning behind why they might be important. We want you to put yourself in the shoes of our readers and provide insightful commentary, authority, and expert recommendations based on detailed research.
WHAT THE JOB WILL ENTAIL
- Help us update our many travel and affiliate articles on a regular basis. We have 300+ articles that need to have some kind of update right now, so there's plenty of work available.
- Each article will be SEO-optimized. We provide the keywords and structure of the article, and you'll be in charge of the research and writing, including sometimes choosing which products or recommendations should go into each post. You'll be required to add the additional keywords into each post that we provide. We also use SurferSEO and Grammarly to optimize each post before it's submitted for review.
- Once you submit an article, we'll review it and let you know if there are any edits needed. You'll be expected to fix edits within 48 hours.
These are the types of articles you might help us update and research:
- California travel destination guides (best things to do in San Francisco, best hikes in Tahoe, best restaurants in Los Angeles, best camping in Yosemite, city and specific attraction guides, etc)
- Gift guides (e.g. 50 best gifts for hikers)
- Roundup reviews of multiple products (e.g. 12 best canvas tents)
REQUIREMENTS
- Strong research skills that can translate to expert-level knowledge around any topic.
- Attention to detail
- Engaging writing - we know how boring standard product reviews can be and we don't want that. We want to present products and destinations in a fun yet authoritative way that engages the reader and makes them trust your opinion and knowledge.
- Basic knowledge of travel and outdoorsy products is preferred, as well as some knowledge of California. Ideally, we'd love to hire someone who's a regular traveler and/or goes camping and hiking on the weekends.
- Someone who's good at meeting deadlines (very important). Note: This is a fully remote position and you're welcome to work from anywhere and in any time zone as long as you meet weekly deadlines.
TRIAL PERIOD
If you're chosen, we'll run a week-long paid trial where you'll help us update one article.
If we decide to move forward after that, we'll talk about next steps and get you trained up with a regular weekly workflow.
PAYMENT
We prefer to pay by the hour for this type of work. Please specify your preferred rate in your application.
