Description
We are looking for a managing editor to join our team and help our writers to produce well-written and well-researched pieces of content.
Our company owns a portfolio of websites in several different niches. You’ll have the opportunity to work across them all, but the biggest chunk of your time will be spent on a couple of our health sites in the parenting niche.
For this reason, it’s a big bonus if you have a degree or medical qualification, and are comfortable with journals, studies, and an evidence-based approach. Many of our writers are experts in their field (pregnancy, postpartum and babies), so bonus points if you have expertise in these areas.
You must be a native speaker of US English, and be located in the US (or an expat).
HOURS AND PAYMENT
We’re looking for a freelance editor who can contribute 5 hours per week at first, and this will increase as time goes on.
Hours are flexible to an extent, but we'd expect you to split this into at least 2 x 2.5hr chunks, so you can deal with any writer submissions, issues or questions that come up.
We're looking to increase this to a substantial part-time or full-time freelance role for the right candidate.
Payment starts at $18/hour, with scope for an increase in both pay and hours. Starting pay is $360/month for 5 hours a week.
ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
This is not a simple proofreading job, nor is it SEO work.
Responsibilities:
-Allocating our content briefs to members of the writing team
-Plagiarism, citation/source and fact checks
-Assessing and suggesting improvements to the content flow
-Spot and edit weird phrasings, grammatical mistakes, and fluff
-Provide constructive feedback to help writers improve
-Keeping track of content allocations and returned articles
-Edit content to match our house style, in US English
-Help in hiring and onboarding new writers from time to time
About You
You don’t have to have tons of experience in editing to apply. New editors who are willing to learn are welcome to apply, and full training will be given. What's more important is that you have:
-Impeccable US English
-A good grasp of how an article should flow, and read well
-Experience in managing people / giving constructive feedback in a tactful way
-Great organizational and time management skills
-Attention to detail (put your favorite color in your application)
-Degree-level education, and/or confident with reading journals and cited studies
-If you have expertise on parenting topics (babies, pregnancy), even better
PLEASE DO NOT APPLY if you’re not a native speaker of US English.
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to complete a paid test, and may also have a Skype/Zoom interview.
We look forward to hearing from you!
