Description

The company

Funded startup operating a number of high-reach websites in home networking, security, and livability verticals.

The Role

We're hiring a part-time writer and content creator to help us communicate home tech topics to a general US audience.

If you're tired of being asked to write generic articles re-hashing information that's already online, working with us will be a breath of fresh air. We have extensive data science capabilities behind the topics we cover, and will supply you with unique, relevant data and information about the topics you're writing on.

The ideal candidate is:

  • University graduate or equivalent experience & academic ability
  • Journalism major or similar preferred
  • A strong storyteller familiar with writing for the web
  • Capable of in-depth research
  • Extremely interested in technology, urbanism, networking, or similar.
  • Background in networking, IT support or similar technical consumer-facing role a big plus.

The Benefits

  • Flexible work schedule
  • Remote team (Digital Nomad friendly)
  • Robust data and development support to make your content shine — we don't just copy/paste articles into WordPress and call it a day around here. You'll have unique data on your topics and dev support on adding interactives + illustration as needed.
  • Looking to learn and grow in the media space? This is a good role for an early-career writer hungry to learn — our team has years of experience building websites that get valuable organic traffic and get featured by outlets like Vice, Ars Technica, etc.

Compensation

Pay: targeting $21 per hour starting, with a $150 flat-rate test project to start.

Projects: We have 15–30 hours per week of work available.

The Caveats

  • This is a contract job — may extend to full-time but no guarantees.
  • Our company is early-stage — budgets are tight and we all wear multiple hats.
  • Much of our audience is shopping for services. About 25% of our content is fairly engaging popular interest topics, but the bulk is transactional in nature, e.g. guides to a particular product or service, troubleshooting materials for hardware, etc. You must be able to maintain a high level of quality when working on dry — but important — topics.
