Description

Hey there, my name is Mauricio and I'm the CEO and co-founder of Cloudwards.net. Our site features reviews of software and online services, comparisons of them and also guides for consumers and small-business owners.

We’re currently expanding and looking to hire a few new writers that can handle reviews in the following categories:

  • VPN services
  • Cloud backup services
  • Cloud storage services
  • Project management software
  • Web hosting services
  • Website builders
  • Marketing software

Besides writing reviews, you can also expect a steady stream of work in the form of general articles (usually how-to guides or informational pieces) and overviews within categories. Do note that we’re hiring reviewers first and foremost, we have no room in our roster for purely generalist writers at the moment.

Depending on what you can handle, we’ll need between one and four articles from you per week, with each ranging between 1,500 and 3,000 words. Once we have a good rhythm going, we’ll start putting you onto larger monthly projects, which range between 15,000 and 30,000 words (the average falls around 20,000).

What we need

So far, Cloudwards.net has been able to avoid infection with the Listicle Plague and we want to keep it that way. We expect writers to do their homework and produce quality content that reads well and doesn’t miss a beat when informing readers which service will work best for them. We do not expect our writers to be salesmen but aim to be a consumers’ advocate.

Most of your assignments will involve signing up for a service, playing around with it to discover exactly what it can and cannot do and then writing up a review which is descriptive, interesting and well-written. We also expect you to take clear and informative screenshots.

Since we’re interested in keeping writers around for the long term, you will find yourself working fairly closely with our editors who will set you up for success when assigning articles and provide you with useful, constructive feedback at all times. Since working in this manner takes up a lot of time, we regret that we cannot take on any people just starting out in their writing career.

What We’re Looking For

To recap, we are looking for writers with the following qualities and skills (please note that as we feel our demands are reasonable, we do expect you to be able to check all these boxes):

  • Some experience as a writer
  • Working knowledge of the category you’re applying to
  • Native English speaker
  • Some college-level education
  • Some familiarity with AP style
  • Career-oriented
  • Immune to the Deadline Flu
  • A Gmail account

What We’re NOT Looking For

  • SEO posts, listicles and other low-quality content (no marketers)
  • Agency applications (seriously, go away)

How to Apply

If you feel you’re the man or woman for us, let us know on our Google Docs form here:

To apply all we need from you is:

  • Your name
  • Your motivation in brief
  • Relevant work history (relevant being the operational word, here)
  • A link or two to published content, portfolio links are even better
  • Your rate in U.S. cents per word

If we like what we see, we’ll commission a paid 1,000-word trial article from you to see how we work together. Do well on that, and you have a writer position with one of the Internet’s fastest growing sites.

We hope to hear from you and maybe we’ll talk some more soon in our Slack channel
