Description

I'm hiring an editor/writer to launch and run Cherokee Connect Weekly, a new local newsletter serving a 145,000+ member Facebook community in Cherokee County, Georgia (metro Atlanta).

This is not another B2B SaaS newsletter. It's a community publication: local news, events, sports, business profiles, and the kind of neighborly storytelling that makes a place feel like home. Think Axios Local meets a small-town Sunday paper, with a warm and personable voice.

A separate content sourcing system is being built to deliver a curated Airtable of weekly story candidates, so you won't be cold-hunting for material every week.

Your job is to bring editorial judgment, voice, and craft to the raw material and ship a polished newsletter on a reliable cadence.

Onboarding deliverables (first 2 to 3 weeks):

-Set up and configure the newsletter in Beehiiv (account, custom domain, signup forms, welcome automation)
-Design a clean, repeatable template that reflects the voice of the publication
-Establish a weekly production workflow with me and my team
-Produce 2 to 3 sample issues for review before we open public subscriptions

Ongoing weekly responsibilities:

Review the curated content queue (typically 30 to 50 items in Airtable)
Select and prioritize stories for the issue
Write or rewrite into a consistent voice: warm, local, neighborly, no corporate-speak
Build the issue in Beehiiv using the established template
Send draft to me for approval, then publish on the agreed schedule

Ideal background:

-Local journalism, community media, or B2C newsletter experience
-Beehiiv experience strongly preferred (or substantial experience with Substack, ConvertKit, Mailchimp, or similar)
-Writing samples that show personality, not just information
-Reliable weekly turnaround
-Ideally based in Georgia or familiar with metro Atlanta culture (not a hard requirement, but a real plus)

To apply: Send a short note about why this role interests you, 2 to 3 writing samples (newsletter samples preferred), and your weekly availability. I read every application personally.

I'm not technical, so I need someone who can take ownership of the platform side and explain decisions in plain English. If you've ever wanted to build a local publication from the ground up with a built-in audience already waiting, this is that role.
