Description
What in a reasonable nutshell (3000-3500 words or so) is your life story? Given your background and family, what kind of person did you expect you might be in your life and in your work? And after a lot of experience and learning and discovery and fortune and chance, how did you wind up as who and where you are today and how do you feel about it all? Of course, one needs to do a memoir to truly write such a story but for the purposes here a capsule memoir will have to do.
To be considered to write an essay, send to our editor a 250-word-or-so summary of the essay you plan to write. If you are given the go-ahead to write an essay, you will receive $1,000 for your finished essay. You will also receive an additional $1,000 should our Townsend Foundation decide to publish it in a book collection.
Examples of two stories, unedited but candidates for inclusion, can be sent to applicants who are interested. Additionally, to see a copy of another essay collection that the Foundation has done, simply request it and the book will be sent at no charge while supplies last.
