About the Role

Savage Ventures is seeking a sharp, entrepreneurial, and editorially rigorous Commerce Editor to lead the creation, execution, and growth of affiliate-driven content across its portfolio of media brands, including VICE.com, ComicBook.com, American Songwriter, and others.

This portfolio-wide leadership role sits at the intersection of editorial direction, revenue growth, and brand voice. Working closely with Savage Ventures’ editorial team and Director of Commerce, you will translate business objectives into editorial commerce initiatives and own their implementation across multiple brands and verticals.

You’ll guide and inspire a team of editors and writers while seeding new commerce content initiatives designed to grow traffic, revenue, and audience engagement. Success in this role requires equal fluency in data, culture, and storytelling.

Key Responsibilities:

Commerce Strategy & Leadership

  • Partner with Savage Ventures’ management to align commerce editorial strategy with business goals, ensuring clear translation of vision into actionable editorial roadmaps.
  • Own the implementation of commerce content across the portfolio, from planning through execution, ensuring measurable outcomes.
  • Lead the editorial development of commerce initiatives across entertainment, music, lifestyle, and humor verticals.
  • Manage and mentor a team of writers, providing editorial guidance, affiliate best practice training, and performance feedback.
  • Seed and launch commerce content projects (e.g., gift guides, seasonal campaigns, evergreen shopping hubs) that serve audiences while driving revenue.

Growth-Driven Content Development

  • Oversee high-potential commerce content projects that maximize revenue opportunities and scale across brands.
  • Package content strategies around seasonal retail moments (Prime Day, Black Friday, festival season, etc.) and cultural trends.
  • Develop repeatable content franchises that build brand authority and long-term revenue streams.

Data-Driven Optimization

  • Use affiliate analytics, SEO data, and trend reporting to prioritize editorial initiatives and continuously improve performance.
  • Track KPIs (EPC, revenue, page views, engagement) and refine content approach accordingly.
  • Collaborate with SEO and internal teams to optimize editorial workflows.

Cross-Functional Partnerships

  • Act as the editorial lead for affiliate brand partnerships—ensuring commerce editorial supports revenue without compromising editorial trust.
  • Balance monetization goals with storytelling and cultural coverage tailored to each brand’s unique audience.
  • Work with Savage Ventures’ growth team to scale commerce operations across multiple properties.

Trend Intelligence & Cultural Relevance

  • Anticipate cultural moments and consumer trends across entertainment, music, lifestyle, and internet culture.
  • Seed timely, relevant commerce content in response to breaking news or viral trends.
  • Monitor competitors and industry leaders to identify emerging opportunities and ensure Savage Ventures stays ahead of the curve.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of digital editorial experience, with at least 2 years focused on commerce or affiliate content.
  • Demonstrated success building and implementing commerce editorial strategies that drive measurable growth.
  • Proven leadership experience managing writers, editors, and freelancers across multiple projects or brands.
  • Strong command of affiliate ecosystems (Amazon, Impact, Skimlinks, etc).
  • Excellent instincts for editorial packaging, SEO-informed ideation, and trend-based storytelling.
  • Ability to balance management-driven directives with creative execution and brand-specific voice.
  • Skilled at launching new content initiatives from the ground up and scaling them across verticals.

Bonus Points

  • Experience working across multiple media brands or verticals simultaneously.
  • Track record of building editorial products that deliver both revenue and cultural impact.
  • Passion for innovation in commerce, whether in shoppable media, social-led trends, or branded partnerships.
