At CannaContent, I write and edit blog posts and landing pages for independent licensed dispensaries, multi-state operators, and other entities in the cannabis sector. I also manage the entire copy team's deadlines, including those of the agency's content strategist and managing editor, both of whom are among CannaContent's co-founders.
I began freelancing in February 2017, held a full-time job from January 2019 through July 2024, and went freelance again in August 2024. My current work is as follows:
• For the leading small business advice website Business News Daily, revise 10 to 30 business and finance stories per month for clarity, factual accuracy, SEO optimization, and appropriate framing for target audience
• For the cannabis dispensary The Travel Agency, write local travel guides and revise approximately 50 blogs per month for clarity, factual accuracy, and SEO optimization
• For musicians and record labels, write 800-word album biographies, 100-word single blurbs, and other promotional materials ahead of album cycles and campaigns
• For the Kickstarter-owned publication The Creative Independent, interview one to two artists or otherwise creative people per month for 2,000-to-2,500-word Q&A pieces
• Previous music journalism bylines include Billboard, GQ, Pitchfork, Paste Magazine, and MTV News (RIP):
- For Billboard, reported a multi-source, 1,200-word feature on a music export platform that helps international artists enter the U.S. market
- For GQ, reported a single-source, 1,500-word artist Q&A examining a popular independent musician’s unorthodox usage of a popular newsletter platform
- For Pitchfork and Paste Magazine, roughly once per month, wrote album reviews spanning 500-800 words
- For MTV News (RIP), roughly once per quarter, reported single-source, 1,200-word musician profiles or 1,700-to-2,000-word multi-source stories about trends such as musicians’ mental health and TikTok usage
Twice per week, quality-checked four-part, 23-page meal plans with technical guidance on grocery shopping, meal prep, and cooking:
• Reviewed meal plans for consistent grocery item quantities, substitutions, shortcuts, and formatting across sections
• Proofread copy to ensure clear instructions and logical continuity across sections
• Confirmed that meal descriptions and photographs were accurate given changes to recipes over time
• Conducted proofreads once before, and again after, recipe developer’s final review
• Ensured pleasing design and spacing within each section and on each page
Wrote recipe blogs, email newsletters and sequences, and lead-magnet PDF guides:
• Drafted five-section, 2,000-word blogs detailing why a recipe works, which ingredients are used, and how to make the recipe
• Composed short emails focusing on one recipe or listing several seasonal or holiday-friendly recipes
• Wrote seasonal produce guides naming all in-season produce and spotlighting five seasonal produce items’ flavor, nutrition profile, and cooking best practices
• Contributed structure, formatting, and copy to bonus content for recipe developer’s cookbook
• Consulted directly with recipe developer on brand voice and key information to highlight
• Line-edited, copy-edited, and fact-checked approximately four dozen blog posts and articles per month:
