I use a yoga ball for my chair, and stand up and stretch every 20 minutes or so. That keeps my brain active…

I think it is brilliant to include factors such as healthy eating and meditating. Though I could use a little brushing up on a healthy diet, I do meditate regularly and it helps with every aspect of my life.

I’m 26 years old and I have loved to write since I was probably 12. I remember seeing an advertisement on my computer at that age for a Poetry.com contest to win $10,000. I entered with high hopes and wrote a poem called “Life”. I was invited to write another poem and recite it at a convention in Washington D.C. (which I couldn’t do) and my original poem was published in a book of poems called “The Colors of Life”.

That experience made me fall in love with writing. This article really resonates with me because I could relate to it personally. I have a plethora of television shows that I love to watch and I’ve read many books in my life. I’ve always soaked in the authors’ different styles and tones and integrated it into my writings.

The pet projects segment is so important to me as well. I’m currently starting my first blog called “The A.D.D. Theory” and it is basically a product of my pet projects in writing. I have interests in so many aspects of writing; I’ve started writing two different books, song lyrics, poems and just basic statements about important issues in society. I’ve decided that a blog that has no range is my destiny.

I hope to reach readers of all kinds and “distract them” from their work, responsibilities and stress for a while. I’m not writing this to bring attention to my blog, but I do want to say that this article and others like it have helped me tremendously in starting my blogging journey. I will keep reading the great content of this site and hopefully I can establish a following of interested and excited readers like you guys have!

Thanks for all the great advice!

For me reading books, traveling to new places and talking to strangers worked like a charm. It gives me new ideas to write on.

I absolutely agree with what Rick said. I think your addition is probably one I resonate with too but I do like most of the tips that Darren has shared. For me the tip that was off when it comes to improving any skill is the TV idea just because I seriously don’t fancy watching TV. My add on instead would be Music and I do believe much of my reading and writing has been nurtured by music because I didn’t grow up with the privilege of formal education – So I certainly believe Music works too :-)

As a freelance writer and blogger, I am ALWAYS writing.

I have started taking better breaks, for exercising and eating healthier, too.

These help tremendously! :)

But I’ll add another one to go along with it: teach English to others. While living in Rome, I was simultaneously learning Italian while teaching English as a foreign language. The dual experience made me hyper-aware of language use in general and improved my writing significantly in a relatively short time.
