Job purpose
Foundr is a multi-platform media brand for aspiring and early career entrepreneurs, offering a digital magazine, podcast, blog, and products such as online courses, ebooks, and print publications. The Foundr brand is planning to expand online content, scaling blog posts and infographics to publish daily. As such, Foundr is hiring a part-time managing editor, who will oversee and schedule regular blog posts on the Foundr Blog, as well as posts to be submitted for publication on external sites. The candidate will manage a stable of contract writers, and work with the lead Content Crafter, Copy Editor, and Publisher to build a clockwork publication of high-quality content. This is a part-time position, requiring a commitment of 20 hours per week.
Duties and responsibilities
Manage a stable of contract and guest writers
- Assign topics and accept or reject pitches from contract and guest contributors
- Set and enforce reasonable deadlines with writers
- Manage budgets for contract writers
Oversee a schedule of blog posts
- Schedule assignments as they are approved with deadlines and writers
- Ensure posts are published on schedule
Arrange guest posts on other sites
- Work with editors of other sites to arrange guest posts
- Schedule writers to submit guest content to external sources
Assist with quality control
- Make sure Foundr’s publishing assistants have what they need
- Help with image research as needed
- Monitor content as it posts
Work with Foundr staff on big picture content decisions and logistics
- Meet regularly with senior Foundr staff to discuss challenges/goals
Skills required
- Detail-oriented project management
- Experience with online content publication a must
- Strict scheduling and enforcement of deadlines
- Staff management
- Ability to juggle many tasks at once
- Familiarity with remote workplace tools: Slack, Trello, Skype
- Eye for detail
- Knowledge of startup world
- SEO knowledge a plus
Working conditions
Flexibility with work schedule to accommodate different time zones, including occasional evenings and weekends as needed. Commitment of 20 hours per week.
